Client / Owner: Centre for Effective Practice (CEP) / CEP Health
Deliverables: Hero Concept Illustrations, Site-Wide Wayfinding Graphics, Custom Category Icons, and Visual SVG Assets
Target Audience: Primary Care Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Healthcare Administrators, and Medical Educators
1. Executive Summary

The Centre for Effective Practice (CEP) is a premier Canadian organization focused on bridging the gap between clinical research and frontline healthcare delivery. CEP develops high-impact digital portals, clinical resources, and practice support initiatives for primary care teams.
To transform the website into an inviting, modern digital environment, a bespoke vector illustration system was created. By crafting custom hero illustrations, site-wide wayfinding graphics, and modular SVGs, the visual design replaced generic medical imagery with an empathetic, approachable, and cohesive visual language.
2. The Challenge

Healthcare websites often fall into two visual traps: overly clinical, cold environments that feel intimidating, or generic stock photography that lacks identity and authenticity.
The primary design objectives were:
- Humanizing the Digital Space: Establish an immediate sense of trust, empathy, and professional authority through custom hero art on key landing pages.
- Intuitive Site-Wide Wayfinding: Design visually distinct icons and SVG category graphics that help busy healthcare providers immediately navigate to relevant subject areas.
- Technical Optimization: Ensure all SVG assets were lightweight, highly scalable, and rendered crisply across low-bandwidth environments, desktop monitors, and mobile displays.
3. Visual Strategy & Conceptual Themes

Key Visual Elements & Metaphors
- Accessible Medical Themes: Translating abstract healthcare topics into relatable scene art without relying on clinical jargon or overly graphic medical elements.
- Cohesive Geometry & Style: Utilizing clean vector geometry, soft curves, and balanced negative space to create a polished, contemporary look.
4. Design & Execution

Color Palette & Visual Style
- Vector Aesthetic: Clean, flat to semi-flat vector illustrations with intentional linework and high-contrast silhouettes for maximum accessibility.
- Palette: Built upon CEP’s trustworthy clinical blues and teals, accented by warm yellows, and soft greens to introduce energy and human warmth.
Key Visual Deliverables
- Main Landing Page Heroes: High-impact banner illustrations that anchor the site’s primary sections, visually communicating the mission of evidence-based primary care.
- Topic Wayfinding Graphics: Custom SVG graphics designed as visual anchors for resource hubs, allowing users to scan and identify specific clinical focus areas instantly.
- Modular Interface SVGs: Clean, scalable vector accents and iconography integrated throughout the layout to break up text-heavy pages and improve overall readability.
5. Website Integration & UX Impact

Integrated directly into the site architecture, these custom vector assets play a vital role in framing the user experience.
- Immediate Recognition: Distinct topic art serves as visual landmarks, helping returning clinicians instantly orient themselves within the site.
- Performance & Scalability: Standardized, crisp SVG files ensure fast load times and sharp rendering on high-DPI (Retina) screens.
6. Impact & Key Takeaways
- Elevated Brand Identity: Replaced generic medical visuals with a unique, branded illustration system that sets CEP Health apart as a modern healthcare leader.
- Seamless Navigation: Enhanced user navigation by using wayfinding graphics to create clear visual hierarchies across dense resource libraries.
- Scalable Asset Library: Provided a versatile vector library that can be expanded easily for future digital initiatives and website updates.
